Precious little has been written about the female perspective of the First World War: something which we, at Great War Literature, intend to address. This side of the subject is often ignored since women, not being required to fight, were also deemed voiceless. This attitude did not prevent many of them from producing some excellent poetry, much of which will be analysed in this and our other forthcoming guides.

To help you in your understanding of the ten First World War female poets contained in this volume, we have provided detailed biographies of each poet, together with in-depth analysis of selected poems, including comparisons with other poetry and First World War literature.
