The following study guides on novels, memoirs and poetry will be released during 2010 in the following formats: printable resources within our GWLSRC and as downloadable, non-printable, e-Books.
"The First Casualty" by Ben Elton ( Study Guide Release Date: Early 2010 )
This study guide analyses this unusual novel which focuses on Douglas Kingsley, a detective and conscientious objector. The story takes the form of a murder mystery, but also poses some interesting questions about the role of a detective amidst the slaughter of the Western Front. This title is already available as a non-printable resource - please click here for details. The e-book version will be available soon.
"Memoirs of an Infantry Officer" by Siegfried Sassoon ( Study Guide Release Date: Late 2010 )
This study guide will examine, compare and interpret Sassoon's continuing, semi-autobiographical, story of George Sherston relating his experiences in the First World War
"The Wilfred Owen Collection" - Teacher Resources ( Study Guide Release Date: Summer 2010 )
These teacher resources will contain online instructional guides for use in class or to aid in constructing individual lesson plans, together with access to all relevant articles within the GWLSRC digital library. Two products will be offered: one will cover the OCR GCSE A661 Literary Heritage Linked Texts syllabus; the other is for the OCR AS Unit F661 Poetry and Prose 1800-1945. Now released - click here for more for more information.
"The Edward Thomas Collection" ( Study Guide Release Date: Late 2010 )
This study guide will contain a detailed biography of this poet together with full analysis of the poems which will comprise the OCR syllabus, due to be announced in September 2010 for teaching in 2012.
"Her Privates We" by Frederic Manning ( Study Guide Release Date: Late 2010 )
This study guide will provide a detailed examination of Frederic Manning's novel "Her Privates We". First published in 1929, this is a classic novel of World War I, and a lasting tribute to all who participated in it. The shocking language of the trenches gave rise to a expurgated edition for the public. This study guide analyses the unexpurgated version which gave rise to an authentic voice from the Great War.
All of the above guides are made available on the GWLSRC, prior to being published as e-Books. For further details, please click here. In the case of the poetry collections, the poems will become available to purchase individually throughout the year as non-print e-books.
