The following study guides on novels, memoirs and poetry will be released during 2011 and 2012 in the following formats: printable resources within our GWLSRC and as downloadable, non-printable, e-Books.
"Memoirs of an Infantry Officer" by Siegfried Sassoon ( Study Guide Release Date: Spring 2012 )
This study guide will examine, compare and interpret Sassoon's continuing, semi-autobiographical, story of George Sherston relating his experiences in the First World War
Edward Thomas Poetry ( Study Guide Release Dates: completed during July/August 2011 )
Adding to our existing range of Edward Thomas poetry study guides, we will be enhancing the collection with new analysis of the poems which will comprise the new OCR syllabus, due for teaching from September 2011.
Edward Thomas Poetry Teacher Resources ( Release Date: completed during Autumn Term 2011 )
To compliment the new OCR A-Level syllabus, we will be providing teacher resources consisting of lesson presentations supported by relevant analysis and biographical details which may be accessed interactively online, or printed out and used separately.
"Her Privates We" by Frederic Manning ( Study Guide Release Date: Late 2011 )
This study guide will provide a detailed examination of Frederic Manning's novel "Her Privates We". First published in 1929, this is a classic novel of World War I, and a lasting tribute to all who participated in it. The shocking language of the trenches gave rise to a expurgated edition for the public. This study guide analyses the unexpurgated version which provides readers with an authentic voice from the Great War.
Poetry Anthologies: Scars Upon my Heart; Up the Line to Death; The Oxford Book of War Poetry ( Study Guide Release Dates: throughout 2011 )
Although we already provide study guides for these three anthologies, we will be adding to these as the year progresses and supplying further analysis of poems and poet biographies for individual purchase. These will be added to the GWLSRC as part of ongoing subscriptions without additional charge. We also intend to launch teacher resources for these anthologies, the first one of which is due to be available early in 2012.
All of the above guides are made available on the GWLSRC, prior to being published as e-Books. For further details, please click here. In the case of the poetry collections, the poems will become available to purchase individually throughout the year as non-print e-books.

We are pleased to announce that, today sees the launch of a new Teacher Resource package on our web site covering the poetry of EDWARD THOMAS within the OCR AS F661 Syllabus. INCLUDED in the package is a 12 month subscription to 15 web-based teaching aid presentations together with access to all relevant poetry analysis, biographical content and background information from our GWLSRC digital library, all of which is able to be viewed interactively online, or printed out. Each of the fifteen presentations contains at least eight "slides" detailing the background, language, themes, verse form, and imagery contained within each poem, plus at least one comparison with other Thomas poetry and several "Discussion Points" for use in class or as Homework Projects. The aims of these presentations are to assist teachers - either by direct use in the classroom, or as an aid to developing other areas of study. Students should, by the time they have finished using these packages, be able to fully understand the language and verse form used, the tone and imagery being created and the situations which Thomas is describing in his poems. In addition, students should be able to pinpoint which poems make suitable comparisons from within the OCR collection and should be better prepared for their examinations. This is just the third of our Teacher Resource Packages, adding to our existing, popular Wilfred Owen resources.
